All this to say: “what shows should I see?”

I have this four month old beautiful, funny baby boy who doesn’t understand how to sleep more than a couple hours at a time. Besides spending the following day extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY tired, I can’t complain too much, because I get to see this face at 12, 2, 4, 6 AM:

Anyway, waking up at all hours means I’m consistently powering on my xbox to watch something on my Netflix instant queue. I’ve burned through Dexter, Veronica Mars, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, The Office and a few random movies thrown in.

This is where you come in (and I finally get to the point), I need new show recommendations. Even if they aren’t available for instant streaming (I do receive the discs, too). To give you an idea of what I like, my favorite shows are The Office, Dexter, and True Blood.

So, what say you, Internet friends?

    My goodness, he’s so handsome!

I’m obsessed with Anthony Bourdain, No Reservations, which you can stream live.

Omg he’s so adorable!!! Try Friday Night Lights (you’re welcome in advance), My Life as Liz, Sons of Anarchy. And I second No Reservations…perfect late night TV, though it might make you a bit hungry.

Parks and Recreation. S1, like the first season of ‘The Office’ is a slog but S2 and S3 (so far) are awesome.

Also Arrested Development (if you haven’t seen it), 30 Rock, Community, Modern Family. If you’re looking for fun, older fluff try Alias. I could keep going and going!

    FRINGE!

Friday Night Lights (seconding Sarah’s suggestion). The show recently ended (there are five total seasons) and I have never felt like that when a show ended. Like a piece of my heart actually broke.

Oh, and also Parks and Rec. Hilarious! (Get through the first couple episodes while you’re getting to know everyone. It gets much, MUCH funnier in season two.)

And YES that boy is so beautiful, I can’t stand it.

You should watch Scrubs! I never watched it on TV, but now that there are 8 seasons (some 180ish episodes I think) I have started watching it and am really enjoying it. They are short and light enough to catch in between something else.
    Also, he’s adorable!

What a handsome little baby face!! *smooch*

I love Alias. The Wire, I think, was the best show on TV EVER, but it might not be your thing. I still watch Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives. Love those.

Friday Night Lights!!! It is the best show on TV (RIP) and I think you would really love it. And that is one handsome face!

House, if you haven’t already seen it. I am easily amused by Cupcake Wars on Food Network, and nearly any competitive food show, but then I get hungry.

Warehouse 13 is fluffy and most light, wacky sci fi plus a little steampunk style thrown in.

Foyle’s War is good, as is A Touch of Frost–both British detective shows, but very different in era and style.

Or Jeeves and Wooster (or is it Wooster and Jeeves?) Anyway, it’s funny. Are You Being Served? is also hilarious. I like British humor.

Oh my goodness, Whitney. I know we say this all the time, but BOY DOES HE LOOK LIKE HIS DADDY. What a sweet little treasure for you to look at each day.

I can’t help you on the shows, though. The only things I ever get to see are cartoons and business news, with an episode of The Office thrown in for good measure.

We watched Damages Seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix Instant and loooooved them. Season 3 is only available through the mail for now, so I haven’t seen it yet. Also, unfortunately, when you go on the FX website, it doesn’t list Damages as being on anymore, although on Wikipedia, it says it was picked up for a 4th season. Sooooo…I don’t know.

My mom also highly recommends Justified.

Freaks and Geeks is good – Modern Family, the Middle are also pretty fabulous. Oh – and Perfect Couples. I just started watching it last night and it’s damn funny. Not sure if it’s on the netflix yet though because it’s new.

Awesome suggestions above. I tend to love any of the Showtime/HBO series. If you don’t mind sex and drugs and such, Weeds and Californication are great shows. I just started Mad Men and love it as well.

Arrested Development is also great. HILARIOUS.

Scrubs, I’m really digging it, Grey’s Anatomy which I just started and like more than I thought I would, Moonlight (only one for one season but it’s vampires and Alex O’Loughlin and OMG he’s dreamy), Will & Grace is good for laughs, and I haven’t started it yet but I hear Vampire Diaries is really good too.

Also, kicking it Old School: Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Let us know what you go with!?

Also, he’s an adorable baby! That face… it kills me!

Have you tried Bones? Veronica Mars, True Blood, and Dexter are my favorite shows, and Bones is up there pretty high on my list (annnd there are five seasons for streaming on Netflix!) Originally I didn’t love it, but my husband kept watching it and eventually I got hooked, too.
I gave Moonlight a try because Jason Dohring is in it (Logan Echolls) but it was a little bit too silly for me. Roswell is supposed to be good, though I haven’t watched it yet, and I did really like Dollhouse (available for streaming). If you’re into sci-fi at all (or even if you aren’t, I thought I disliked sci-fi until this show) Battlestar Galactica is very very good. I originally thought I was in hell when my husband informed me the pilot episode we were watching with friends was two hours long and about robots taking over the world and people fleeing in spaceships, but it really and truly is a fantastic show, and by the end of the last season, I was almost in tears that there wouldn’t be any more.

    Also….He is soooo cute!

Finally, I second Damages, especially the first season.

    - Detroit 187 – cop drama w/ Michael Imperioli (sopranos fame); if you like cop shows, ti’s a great one!

OH MY GOSH YOU HAVE 2 BABIES!!!! Congratulations!! I was looking through blog posts from 3 years ago and came across one of your comments and clicked on your link. I can’t believe you have 2 boys. Congrats. They are beautiful. I have lots of catching up to do. I read your posts about how overwhelming it is. I will tell you 2 things – 1) it’s so very normal & 2) it will get better. I know it doesn’t help the current situation but find grace in the small things. It will help. Hugs & congrats!
